The opening of the American grocery chain Walgreens is the biggest shopping event of the year for Americans and the nation’s largest retailer has made a strong case for the first-ever nationwide distribution of the products.
“This is the first major retail event that has ever occurred in the United States in which we will be able to distribute our own products and services across the country, with a national distribution network,” said Michael Schoenberg, the company’s chief executive.
“We are thrilled to be able join this new wave of innovation in the grocery market, one that has been driven by the needs of consumers.”
In addition to Walgops flagship stores, the chain is also opening a variety of stores across the U.S. for a variety and brands of goods, including clothing, jewelry and home decor.
There are also a few stores in Canada.
In the first half of 2018, Walgins distribution network saw more than 500 million items shipped to consumers, including $8 billion worth of fresh products, said a Walgens spokesperson.
“With this expanded distribution, we will continue to expand our products and support our customers by continuing to invest in the U to grow and diversify.”
